Paid media KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are metrics used to measure how effectively advertising campaigns generate visibility, engagement, traffic, conversions, revenue, and return on investment. The most important KPIs depend on the campaign objective.

    Important Paid Media KPIs

    • Impressions: Number of times an advertisement is displayed.
    • Reach: Number of unique people who see an advertisement.
    • CPM (Cost Per Mille): Cost to generate 1,000 ad impressions.
    • CTR (Click-Through Rate): Percentage of people who click an ad after seeing it.
    • CPC (Cost Per Click): Average amount paid for each ad click.
    • Conversion Rate: Percentage of visitors who complete a desired action, such as purchasing or submitting a form.
    • CPA (Cost Per Acquisition): Average cost of acquiring a customer or generating a desired conversion.
    • CPL (Cost Per Lead): Average cost of generating a qualified or captured lead.
    • ROAS (Return on Ad Spend): Revenue generated for every unit of advertising spend.
    • ROI (Return on Investment): Overall financial return from a campaign compared with its total investment.
    • Revenue: Sales or other revenue directly attributed to paid advertising.
    • Engagement Rate: Measures interactions such as likes, comments, shares, and saves relative to audience exposure.
    • Frequency: Average number of times an individual sees an advertisement.
    • Video Completion Rate: Percentage of viewers who watch a video advertisement to the specified completion point.
    • Customer Lifetime Value (CLV): Estimated revenue or profit a customer generates over their relationship with the business.

    Example

If a brand spends ₹50,000 on paid advertising and generates ₹2,00,000 in attributed revenue, its ROAS is:

    ROAS = ₹2,00,000 ÷ ₹50,000 = 4×

This means the campaign generated ₹4 in revenue for every ₹1 spent on advertising.

In short: The most important paid media KPIs include CTR, CPC, CPM, conversion rate, CPA, CPL, ROAS, ROI, revenue, reach, and impressions. The right KPIs should always be selected according to the campaign’s specific business objective.
