    IDNA (Internationalized Domain Names in Applications) support is the technology that allows domain names containing non-ASCII characters—such as accented letters or characters from scripts like Devanagari, Arabic, Chinese, or Cyrillic—to work with the existing DNS system.

    In practice, IDNA:

    • Allows internationalized domain names (IDNs) to be represented in a DNS-compatible format.
    • Converts Unicode domain names into ASCII-compatible encoding (ACE), commonly using Punycode.
    • Enables browsers, domain registrars, and other applications to process localized domain names.
    • Helps businesses use domain names that better match local languages and markets.

    For example, a domain containing non-Latin characters can be encoded into a Punycode representation for DNS while still being displayed in its localized form to users.
