What happened to Shopify’s Geolocation app?

Shopify’s Geolocation app was discontinued in 2025. Shopify stopped allowing new installations on February 1, 2025, and the app was shut down and uninstalled from stores on March 24, 2025.

Shopify introduced built-in alternatives, including:

• Automatic domain redirection based on a customer’s location
• Automatic browser-language redirection
• Built-in country and language selectors in some themes
• Shopify Markets for managing localized currencies, languages, and domains

If a merchant still needs consent-based geolocation functionality—particularly for certain EU domain setups—Shopify recommends using a compatible third-party geolocation app.
