Statistical significance is important in CRO because it helps determine whether an observed difference between test variations is likely to reflect a real effect rather than random variation in the data.

For example, if an A/B test shows that a new Request a Quote button produces a higher conversion rate than the original, statistical analysis helps assess whether that difference is sufficiently supported by the test data.

It is useful because it helps teams:

    • Evaluate A/B test results more objectively.
    • Reduce the risk of acting on random fluctuations.
    • Determine whether observed differences have sufficient statistical evidence.
    • Support evidence-based CRO decisions.
    • Avoid prematurely declaring a test successful.

However, statistical significance does not necessarily mean that a change has a large or commercially important effect. A statistically significant improvement could be very small, while a potentially useful change may fail to reach significance because the test has insufficient data.

CRO teams should therefore consider sample size, test duration, effect size, confidence intervals, practical or business impact, and data quality rather than relying on statistical significance alone.
